“It’s not an ARTIST’S job to please anyone,
but to bravely do the work that they are
most compelled to do.
It’s the PUBLIC’S job to bravely seek out
and appreciate the work
that resonates with them.”
~Steve Peters, Musician & Composer
Does it get any simpler than this?
This is my job. To do what I’m compelled to do.
To write my heart, to speak my mind.
Not to constantly worry about the audience, the readers,
the publishers and agents and armchair critics . . .
and homophobes.
It’s easy to forget what my job is in the cacophony of
media, the neverending list of shoulds and shouldn’t's.
I need this tattooed on my body, but that would be painful.
So I’ll just do my best to keep the focus on my job.
Our voices matter. Whether we are
creating something, or telling our truth.
