The Undiluted You

I heard Jim Carrey say this in an interview with Oprah,
and I paused it and ran to get a paper and pen to write it down.

MyQuotes-Mantle

It has remained one of my favorite quotes.
What I love about the way Jim Carrey said it is
the idea of embracing who we are, being that,
undiluted.  In spite of the media, our parents,
our friends and peers and workmates and bosses.

It’s so easy to get distracted.
We get distracted by injustice, and we wear that for a while, as if who we are is our outrage at the state of the world. I see people on Facebook who post nothing but their outrage.  To everyone watching them, they become what they are unhappy about.

Or we become consumed by the choices of groups to belong to. We become that group.  Or we get distracted by duty, by family roles and expectations, by all the things we want to accomplish.  The hardest thing to do is to remain true to yourself, to stay centered in the eye of the hurricane as the world whirls around you and you try to balance all these things tugging on the fabric of who you are.

Embracing what we’ve been dealt simply means be grateful for every strength and weakness, every facet and flaw we came here to be. Pick up your mantle and wear it as if it was entrusted to you for your protection. The undiluted you is what the world needs, not a copy of what you admire or strive for. Those are just guideposts. Be your authentic self; that’s the toughest thing to do.
