I can’t remember when I’ve enjoyed a trilogy this much. Why? It has everything… Love, betrayal, an intricate plot with twists, turns, surprises and reveals… fantasy, alchemy, animal-shapeshifters, mistaken and hidden identities, straight romance, gay romance, adults and teens working together, escalating danger, a Black Swan, a Jaguar God and a 3-legged dachshund named Hook. These books –Skin (1), Blood (2) and Bones (3) –have everything.
Jesse Daro is a storyteller. And the added bonus is that she’s also a gifted writer with a literary tone that isn’t distracting, and a knack for creative verbiage and complex characters. It may have taken all three of the novels before some of the lovers got together, but the journey was amazing and fun and creative, well worth the wait. And on a very personal note, I have great admiration for authors who can write a gay romance with a depth of heart and integrity, without degenerating into mindless carnal physicality. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
These books should be movies. I loved them so much, I bought them on Kindle and as quality paperbacks. Okay, I’ll stop raving now. Can’t wait til the next triology of Werekin novels.
